The exhibition space we have in Leipzig is wonderful. Yesterday we painted the walls, today I did the framing. I am not really satisfied with my prints (some of them have minor irregularities close to the bottom), but I guess I have to live with that for now.

Leipzig exhibition
I am very happy to be part of the group exhibition „Kammerspiel“ at Spinnerei Leipzig during f-stop Festival from June 23 till July 1, opening reception Friday June 22, 19 h at Spinnerei Halle 18. The bookworks of the participating artists were all shortlisted for this year’s dummy award. So not only my Pelikan dummy will be shown during the festival, but also images on the wall. Stop by if you’re in the area!

Suspense
Looking for a small but capable camera? See what New York Times tech guru David Pogue wrote on June 7:
„I bought the amazing Canon S100, a tiny pocket camera with the biggest sensor on the market. I wrote about my reasons here. But in two weeks, I’ll be switching my allegiance. You cannot believe what’s about to come down the photographic pike. Trust me: If you’re in the market for a small camera with astonishing photographic results, hold off for a few weeks.“

Bookbinding
This weekend I took a course in bookbinding at Buchbinderei Altona. We learnt how to make a book from scratch: from cutting the paper sheets to saddle-stitching to making the cover. I don’t plan to bind endless books in the near future, but it’s interesting to learn your way around paper and books. Highly recommended if you’re interested in the medium!
Pelikan in Leipzig
I am very happy to announce that the shortlistet dummies from this year’s International Fotobook Festival – among them my „Pelikan“ bookwork – will travel to Leipzig for f-stop, the 5th Festival for Photography from June 23 till July 1.
Again, if you’re interested, here is a short video of the book:

Website makeover
I gave this site a little makeover using Alice theme for WordPress made by Raygun just like the Portfolio theme I used before. The main difference – apart from some design changes – is that Alice is a responsive theme, which means that it adapts to the size of the display on which you are viewing the site. I also decided to enable fancygrid, which gives you a nice overview of the different galleries before you access the individual images. Tell me what you think, and please let me know if anything is broken.
Paris!
My bookwork from the Pelikan series has been selected for the shortlist of the Dummy Award of this year’s International Fotobookfestival to be shown at Le Bal in Paris from April 20 till 22.
You can preview the book in this short video:

Lost in publications
Lost in publications is a new tumblr „trying to bring structure to the immense amount of photo publications.“ Each page presents a wealth of information on a photographer (e.g. Viviane Sassen, Rob Hornstra, Rafal Milach) with images, interviews, videos. The current feature is on Rineke Dijkstra (via Ben).
The Sonic Blog
Big thanks to Peter Feldhaus for featuring my series „Pelikan“ from Thailand and Malaysia on his influential Sonic Blog today! A very nice bonus is that Sonicsites is among the live feeds on The Photography Post, so I get visitors from all over the world today!
Peter writes: „Gabriele Harhoff’s Asian travel notes are spontaneous and light-footed without falling into arbitrariness.“
